Future Trends in Digital Marketing

Content marketing is always expanding and evolving which makes it even more crucial for marketers to stay up to date with the current trends and how they might impact marketing in the future.

Why is it important?

·        Helps shape marketing approach and refine strategy as these trends emerge and continue to grow.

·        Helps business strategize on the best way to leverage off these trends in terms of what to focus on in their content and techniques.

·        Reach target audiences better as new emerge and continue

I have examined two future trends below:

The Metaverse

The metaverse is a unique immersive virtual environment using virtual reality and augmented reality. Essentially the metaverse involves “a shared virtual space where users are represented by virtual avatars” (Mileva, 2022). The virtual worlds do not ‘end’, they continue to evolve and grow based on the decisions of the user. For example, in a video game, a player could be standing alone in a corner whilst the other players continue on in their virtual world. Essential the metaverse combines the real world with the virtual world.

The metaverse may influence digital marketing in the future significantly. According to Mileva (2022), this is a trend that is likely to stay around for years to come. Understanding how the metaverse works, and knowing the target market, will help marketers to decide on ways to leverage their business goals through the metaverse.

For example:

·    Creating marketing virtual experiences that tie in with real world experiences i.e. trying clothes on in a virtual shop.

·    Placing Ads on Virtual billboards.

·    Making collectables available by offering assets or limited-edition items that users can only collect in the metaverse.

·    Being such a new trend, best practices are yet to be established so this gives marketers the freedom to be experimental in their tactics and approaches (Mileva, 2022).

Social Media

In 2022, a recent survey identified the most popular social media channels were Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Tik Tok (Iskiev, 2022). Furthermore, short-form videos have exploded over these platforms with the likes of Instagram Reels, Facebook Stories, Tik Tok videos. With billions of users all over the world, these channels will likely only be bigger and better in the future, with more features and capabilities.

Marketers can leverage off these popular channels by making sure they build a strong presence now. For example, jumping on the trends like reels and tiktok videos, and focusing creating more entertaining, educational or informative content to constantly grow their brand, and get their product or service in front of a wide and interactive audience.
